Custom painted Vans
I’ve been seeing a lot of artists start to paint on Vans as commissioned work. There’s something about being able to wear your favorite artist around on your feet that people really get into. I want a pair. I want to make a pair. It reaches down to that part of you that makes you want to look and feel like an individual. There’s a lot of different styles of work out there on shoes, but the one thing that seems to remain constant is that they all use Vans. Apparently it makes a great blank canvas… they are made of canvas after all.
We wrote about Taylor Reeve a while back and that’s the first time I saw the custom vans.

These are great!…I want a pair!….And like you said too, I want to paint some! …Just curious what type of paint is used?…..(Acrylic on canvas?….Are they sealed, or do they need to be?) I preffer wearing leather shoes….Can you ever do this on leather shoes?….If so, what kind of paint would you have to be use?
Love, love all the “tennie-masterpiece’s”!! ~I just discovered your website & can’t wait to explore it some more!

Hi Bambi-
Most of the artists I read about use acrylic on canvas… I know Taylor Reeve uses paint pens to create her bold outlines. On leather, you can still use acrylic, but need to prepare the leather with things like rubbing alcohol or leather bleach to get it ready. Here’s an ehow on how to paint on leather if you’re interested! http://www.ehow.com/how_15424_paint-leather.html
