If you’ve been lusting after an iPad like me, you’re bound to wind up with one of these babies after a while. If you do, you’ll need a case to protect it (and of course keep it looking as awesome as it is). A friend sent me a link to these and I just think they’re amazing. Handcrafted in San Francisco, these are made to look like journal covers for those artists out there who want to keep a traditional sense to their musings on the go.

Apparently I’m not the only one who thought they needed one, because it takes 4-6 weeks from the time you order one to get it in your hands, but I think it might be worth the wait. Dodocase.com

These ring back to old school sailing and sweater vests, but are cool enough to match your everyday digs and hopefully will replace my boyfriend’s tattered Nautica white canvas.

This style, the Zissou, are my favorite mainly for the color, but they come in colors that might be more suitable to your wardrobe as well.

The second one named Cousteau are available either in leather or canvas in a larger variety of colors.
If boat shoes aren’t your flavor, they’ve got plenty of other options for you as well. Check it out at CLAE

I just found out about the Uniform Project from a friend and think it has to be the coolest fundraiser I have ever seen. Sheena (the wearer of the dress) decided to take one little black dress and wear it everyday for one year. She would only pair it with recycled and donated accessories. All the time, blogging about her travels and donations and raising money for children who can’t afford to go to school. She completed her 365 days of fashion on May 1st and managed to raise $94,674 while doing the project. Watch the video, if you like fashion, I guarantee you’ll fall in love.

When you see all the things that Sheena can do with one little black dress, you’ll be ashamed of your lack of accessories. Check out a few of my faves below, or go to TheUniformProject.com to see each of the 365 days.

In honor of Earth Day, I thought I would track down a few pieces that’s my favorite new way to upcycle or recycle… fused shopping bags. No matter how many times you bring your own bags to the store, somehow you end up with a stash of plastic bags in your house. Of course you can bring them back to the store to be “recycled” but from everything I’ve seen and learned about recycling plastic bags is that it expends more energy to recycle them than to create more, so they are very unlikely to ever actually be recycled. So, what to do? These crafty little etsy-ers have turned them into fashionable items to reuse again and again.

I love this “The Little Blue Green Purse” in which groundsel used old New York Times newspaper sleeves along with regular plastic bags to make an awesomely colorful pattern you don’t normally see in fused plastic bag art.

ReclaimedWreckage makes a variety of really cool upcycled items, but since we are focusing on fused plastic bags today, I wanna show you their super cool eco wine tote with a little window that allows you to see what kind of wine you’re packin’.

After looking through some more of Reclaimed Wreckage’s products, I had to share a few more… first this fused grocery bag hobo purse with flower accents:

And this fused plastic faux leather journal with a bit of old leather belt as the clasp:

This last little gem is from claudiabags and is made from old plastic bags for just a little clutch to take out on the town.

I was impressed with the couture quality look of the shawl and styling of the photography. It was hand-felted and shaped out of merino wool by Vaida Petreikiene of Lithuania, otherwise known as vart on Etsy.

This next view of it as a ruff reminds me of my costume history studies of the mid-sixteenth century. A beautiful classic that I thought needed to be spotlighted.

We stumbled upon two websites the other day called Smallthings and Stone & Honey after a recommendation from a friend. Wow, this jewelry is gorgeous. The agate necklaces that they use for their Stone & Honey line are so vivid and powerful that it makes you start thinking what outfit you’re going to have to go buy to go with this necklace you’re about to put on your credit card and not look back. Each piece is one of a kind as the stones are original finds and not reproductions.

The same goes for the silver and goldwork as each piece is hand-laid, cut, and soldered to perfection… a detail that they insist won’t change. As for me, I ooh and aah at all the large and in charge wonderful pieces, but I’m more of a simple jewelry kind of gal, so this silver pinwheel necklace named Ida just really did it for me. The perfect combination of simplicity and glamour.

Looking for something that feels more like an everyday item than something that you should be wearing when whisked into a magical fantasyland? Check out the smallthings site for everything wonderful, adorable, and as simple as a completely unique piece could be. My favorites were the bits and pieces line that comes in silver with cut-outs of everyday items. I want to wear the umbrella everytime it’s a cloudy day…. and probably when it’s a sunny day also.

CIPHER a shoe company based in China, has been throwing out some amazing designs. I found these while perusing some of my usual blogs. This is one of my favorite shoes from their line, the Subterranean. I really only dig this in the grey suede, but it is also available in black. Definitely check out their site for more of their shoes. Also, take note of the design of the site. Super clean and really focuses on their products. Nice work. The more I look at theses shoes the, the more I want them.
