Art Print Giveaway

Betony Coons and Morningbird Collective are celebrating her recent addition to the site with a giveaway! Betony is going to give away one of the beautiful Wrought Iron Gate Prints shown below to a lucky Morningbird reader. Just comment on this blog with what you will do with or where you will put the print if you win by midnight this Thursday, June 3rd and Betony will choose the ending location at random on Friday!

Beautiful 5X5 inch print on heavy archival quality paper. The paper size is 8.5X11 so that it is easy to frame. Limited edition of 100. All prints signed and numbered. Each print is lovingly packed by me in a clear protective sleeve with a study cardboard packing for safe shipping.

This piece is title “Wrought Iron Gate” and is of a mix of images – a little blue bird on a wood circle, an ornate iron gate, colorful scribbles, an bits of an asian newspaper. This piece was originally painted as a companion to my “Story” mini painting. The image has a lot of movement and intrigue.

Betony Coons

Betony Coons is an artist and art teacher out of Greeley, CO. I first noticed her art at The Bean Cycle in Old Town Fort Collins and then we bumped into each other at The French Nest Market last weekend. The most common theme in all of her artwork is the image of a bird. She says that “images of flight and weightlessness represent the idea of a soul and our spiritual existence.”

She also has a series of “mini-paintings” which she sells for anywhere from $20 – $40 which we will soon be selling on the site, so stay tuned! For now, check out the rest of her work at GraySparrow.com.

This Fort Collins artist just moved into the empty space next to my co-working building. Saw a sign about her open house and thought I’d check out the site… pretty cool stuff. She’s been involved in the projects to beautify Fort Collins as well which I think is pretty awesome.

Andi Rose

Andi is another local artist that houses her work at the Gallery Underground in Old Town Square Fort Collins. Andi spends her days working at New Belgium Brewery which promotes sustainability almost as much as their beer. So, it’s only natural that her pieces are multi-media items stemming from everyday inspiration and upcycled objects.

In the past, cardboard cutouts and paint have played the main role in her art such as in this piece below:

In her newest series, she has created silhouettes from pictures she’s taken and added them to her artwork. My favorite, the first, had already sold by the time we arrived at the artwalk. I hope that the rest of the show was as successful.

Yassine El Mansouri

Half a year ago, a friend and I were passing thru DC on a road trip halfway across the country and got the privilege of hanging out and staying with Yassine El Mansouri, a photographer who lives in Washington DC. He gave us the honor of being our personal tour guide as well as our personal photographer while touring. I won’t bore you with our vacation pics, but below are a sampling of the wonderful images that make up his body of work.

Chelsea Glanz Art

After realizing last month that we hadn’t been spotlighting many of our own local artists, we armed ourselves with our camera this First Friday Artwalk, prepared to bring some of our local flavor to you. One of the first artists we thought we’d share is Chelsea Glanz, mainly due to her unique style and subject matter. Chelsea grew up on Grant Farms just north of Fort Collins, and the result has been that her art is inspired by vegetables. Many of her small pieces that she uses to put on greeting cards are happy little vegetable families, vegetables playing guitar, or a spotlight of her favorite vegetable of the week.

Her larger pieces sometimes have a glimmer of farmlife peeking through the theme, but she has definitely surprised us a time or two. This new piece which she was debuting at Gallery Underground this week is one of my favorites so far.

Not only does Chelsea grace us with her art, that you can see more of here, but she also shares home-cooked recipes on her recipe blog, Hot Purple Carrots.

Cypher 13’s Rainbow Magic Installation

Denver recently hosted Create Denver Week and with the headquarters of the event being across the street from MCA Denver, the crew at Cypher 13 decided they needed to have a little bit of fun with rainbows. Here’s the result:

Custom painted Vans

I’ve been seeing a lot of artists start to paint on Vans as commissioned work. There’s something about being able to wear your favorite artist around on your feet that people really get into. I want a pair. I want to make a pair. It reaches down to that part of you that makes you want to look and feel like an individual. There’s a lot of different styles of work out there on shoes, but the one thing that seems to remain constant is that they all use Vans. Apparently it makes a great blank canvas… they are made of canvas after all.

We wrote about Taylor Reeve a while back and that’s the first time I saw the custom vans.
